Is it really unsafe to insert a cotton-tipped ear swab through the ear canal?
It feels kind of uncomfortable and itchy inside the ears when ear wax builds up, so I have frequently used ear swabs to remove some of them. I have also used them to remove wax on the outer side of my ear and for putting on makeup.
My family and I haven’t use them for a while, so I finally tried to buy them today until I saw on the box, which cautioned not to insert them through them through the ear canal.
Why is it so?
You should never ever insert a swab into your ear. You could puncture your eardrum or shove the wax in farther. The ears are self cleaning and as new wax is made it pushes the old wax out so you can wipe it away with a washcloth. If it does build up and needs to be removed have someone flush your ears but NEVER EVER use a q-tip.
